Established in 1946, the Higher Institute of Nursing offers bachelor degrees in Nursing and Medical Lab Technology. It is also licensed to offer technical programs in nursing, physiotherapy and midwifery.
The philosophy and goals of the Institute derive from the philosophy and goals of its mother association. This philosophy emanates from the fact that health is a basic right for all and that health care services should be accessible to all citizens and in all regions of the country. The institute works to lead the nursing profession to the highest standards in education and practice.

The Vision:
The Makassed Higher Institute of Nursing shall:

  1. Be a leading nursing institute that provides quality nursing education at the professional/academic level.
  2. Be a model academic institution for the development and implementation of inservice and rehabilitation programmes for nurses of all categories at the national level.
  3. Serve to produce qualified nursing manpower for the national and regional health service market.
 

The Mission:
In accordance with the philosophy and mission of our mother association, Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association, the Makassed Higher Institute of Nursing believes that quality health care is a basic human right that should be equally accessible to all citizens and in all regions of the country.

 

Hence, the institute has committed itself to:

  1. Promote the nursing profession in the community.
  2. Provide the highest standard of professional nursing education by qualified faculty and administrative staff.
  3. prepare nurse leaders able to deal with role changes in emerging health are systems.
  4. Exercise quality control over nursing programmes and develop a credentialing system for that purpose.
  5. Start a post-basic nursing programme in the near future.
  6. Support the establishment of a professional body for nurses.
 

College Programs and Degrees:
Three programmes are currently offered:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing - B.S
  2. Baccalaureate Technique in Nursing - B.T
  3. Brevet Pratique in Nursing - B.P
    All three programmes are approved by the Ministries of Culture and Higher Education and Technical Education.

Registration Requirements:
All candidates must submit an application form and a folder that includes:

  1. A copy of the official certificate required for the programme
    · official baccalaureate for the B.S
    · official Brevet for the BT
    · School certificate of grade 9 for the BP
  2. A transcript of grades for the last 3 school years
  3. ecommendation from previous school principal
  4. A photocopy of ID or passport (for non Lebanese)
  5. Health clearance certificate.
  6. 3 passport size photographs.
 

 

 

Applicants pay a registration fee upon completing registration requirements. Tuition fees are paid in two endorsements during the fall and spring semester. For needy students, a contract may be signed with Makassed General Hospital whereby students are exempted from tuitions provided they work at the hospital after graduation the duration of the contract - UNRWA and other organizations offer scholarships for a number of students based on their academic performance.

 

Graduates may practice their profession in one of the following areas:

  1. Hospital units: Surgery, Medicine, Operating Room, Dialysis Room, Pediatrics, Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Psychiatry etc….
  2. Community Health Services: School health, out patient clinics, occupational health etc…
  3. Extended Care facilities: nursing homes, rehabilitation centres, handicaps services etc….
  4. Education and Administration: Nursing Schools, research and health planning, health counseling and consultancy, nursing services etc….

Graduates may also chose to persue graduate education in nursing, public health, health service administration and research.

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing 263 1989 - 2002
  2. Bachelor of Science in Medical-
    Laboratory Technology 9 1986 - 1989
 


Total number of graduates since 1950 is 1308.
