A recent qualification audit of the Blood Transfusion Center at Makassed General Hospital conducted by the Etablissement Français du Sang (EFS) and the Lebanese Committee for Blood Transfusion (LCBT) yielded highly positive results, with no critical deviations identified. This comprehensive audit underscores the center’s commitment to excellence in blood transfusion services.
The audit highlighted seven key strengths, including the presence of highly qualified personnel, well-informed leadership, and an effective monitoring system for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Although the audit identified five non-critical non-conformities, primarily relating to documentation and equipment qualification, these are being addressed with targeted improvement recommendations.
The audit team particularly praised the dedication of the staff, the availability of specialized facilities such as deep freezers, and the well-organized rest areas for staff. The center’s comprehensive quality control processes were also noted as a key strength. Key audit recommendations include updating technical competency evaluations, enhancing donor identification systems, and improving temperature validation protocols for optimal storage.
The audit was carried out in a collaborative and transparent manner, with full engagement from all parties. The management team has shown a strong commitment to improving service quality, and the overall findings confirm the center’s solid functionality, providing a clear roadmap for the continued improvement of blood banking services at Makassed General Hospital.
