At the start of each Scouting year, the Makassed Islamic Scouts focus on strong training foundations to develop leaders’ skills and enhance youth programs. This year, early preparation included training activities and courses for leaders at local and national levels.
Local preparatory courses were organized across all branches and combined theory with practical training. These courses included training in leadership, activity organization, program planning, time management, and youth engagement, emphasizing teamwork and the values of Makassed.
Several leaders also participated in the Wooden Badge courses organized by the Lebanese Scout Association and which are considered among the highest levels of scouting training. These multi-day, camp-based courses covered advanced leadership, camp management, teamwork, communication, and skill development, directly enhancing program quality at the unit level.
The Beirut Commission of the Makassed Islamic Scouts organized the general summer camp at Makassed Scout City in Araya, Makassed’s flagship scouting facility, equipped to provide the best environmental and educational conditions for scouting activities. Scouts of all levels and ages – from buddies and cubs, to Scouts, Guides and Rovers- participated in a balanced program of training, cultural workshops, sports, and recreational activities.
Daily activities focused on developing core scouting skills such as fire-lighting, stove building, rope work, land navigation, and first aid, while cultural workshops broadened Scouts’ understanding of national, humanitarian, and environmental issues. The program emphasized teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie.
Camp leaders with advanced training ensured a safe environment that addressed participants’ physical and psychological needs while fostering personal and scouting growth. Daily evaluation sessions allowed Scouts to provide feedback, supporting the camp’s educational approach.
As the summer concludes, the Makassed Islamic Scouts are prepared for a strong new Scouting year. Supported by training, field experience, and reinforced values of initiative and team spirit, they are ready to deliver impactful programs, community projects, and educational activities that meet young people’s needs and aspirations.
