In an effort to modernize scouting for the next generation, the Makassed Islamic Scouts launched a new initiative this year, introducing modern and advanced scouting programs. These programs were held weekly in the Scout Troops of Makassed schools, with activities tailored to the age and physical abilities of each group.
This initiative supports Makassed’s mission to nurture ethical individuals and engaged citizens. The new curricula aim to build scouting, social, and psychological skills in boys and girls through modern methods and tools that reflect Makassed’s values and promote teamwork and national identity.
The programs were integrated into the weekly activities of the Scout Troops, covering traditional scouting skills such as knot tying and first aid, in addition to interactive workshops on leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
The highlight of this successful initiative was a training camp organized by the Beirut Commission at Makassed school in Kamed El-Laouz. Scouts from various Troops gathered for a hands-on experience, applying the skills they had learned throughout the year. The camp included field activities, competitions, discussion circles, and team challenges, reflecting their significant progress and the positive impact of the new programs.
Scout leaders praised the participants’ strong engagement and commitment, crediting this success to the dedicated efforts and thoughtful planning by Scout leadership in collaboration with school administrators and the wider Makassed community. Beirut Commission officials highlighted the camp as a starting point for future scouting development projects. The new programs will be regularly reviewed and updated, with plans to expand the initiative within and beyond Makassed schools.
The Makassed Scouts’ experience this year stands as a model for modernizing scouting to better meet the aspirations and needs of today’s youth, while preserving the authentic spirit of scouting that has long been a cornerstone of Makassed’s educational and national mission.
